SALT PIG

Have you ever heard of a salt pig?  They are a large version of a salt cellar.  They are meant to use everyday and not just at the table at a fancy dinner.  If you turn a salt pig on it's side it does resemble a side of a pig.  The design is odd but it prevents from salt caking that doesn't have anti-caking properties even in humid weather.  The shape keeps dirt and debris out as well as miraculously bugs steer clear completely.  They come in a variety of materials mainly pottery with a hand carved wooden spoon that holds exactly 1/4 teaspoon of salt.  The reason I share this with you...Orson Gygi has a delightful selection of salt pigs as well as some great salts from all over the world.  You can also pick up a salt grinder to make those salts fine for your rubs.  Himilayan pink salt can be found at Sunflower Market in Murray and Spoons and Spice has a great selection of salts and salt grinders as well.  Have fun trying a new type of salt and a new rub on a cut of pork.  I just had to pick up a pink salt pig.  Until next time...
